Glass Fusion with Ali from smARTsy (sold out)

Glass fusion 3

I'm Ali from smARTsy, and am bringing a beautiful array of glass in many forms and colours to BCAF's Arts Workshop event at the Congregational Church. It is my first visit to the Festival. Your works of art will be taken away for firing in a kiln offsite, and will be available for collection in Burbage after one week.

There are two 90 minute sessions available, at 1:30PM (sold out) and 3PM (now sold out). Ticket price (£10) includes materials to make a variety of birds, coasters and hangers. Additonal pieces may be available for £5 and purchased on the day. Other options include upgrades to larger pieces such as trinket dishes and spoon rests, for an extra £8, payable on the day.

Acrylic Painting in Miniature with Joanne Stewart

acrylics in miniature2I live to be creative. Form and shape and how colour masses interact - it's all part of what gets me going in a creative pursuit. My style goes from realism to abstraction, but I tend to focus on my mixed media work, which definitely leans to abstraction.

My unique style and risk to experiment has led to my work being exhibited within a London gallery and other exhibitions and events. This in turn has allowed me to work with a number of high profile art and design companies, demonstrating, blogging and providing hints and tips on how to get the best out of their product ranges.

A bit about the workshop:

For BCAF I am introducing you to the world of 'Acrylics in Miniature' - the aim being for you to produce a unique art piece using acrylics and natural materials.  you will develop the skills to paint in miniature a masterpiece on either leaves or ceramic tiles.  All materials are supplied and you will each have a piece to take home at the end.  No experience is necessary, just a bag full of enthusiasm.

There are two 90 minute sessions at 1:30 and 3PM, each place priced at £12.00

Crochet for Beginners - Granny Squares with Helen Rollins

CrochetHello, my name is Helen and I run Wool And Crafts. We are a local online craft retailer. I mainly crochet but I also enjoy knitting and cross stitch. Over the years I have made everything from blankets and hats to cardigans and socks.

For my first year at BCAF I am running a workshop for complete beginners or those that have just never been able to master the Granny Square. We are covering the basics from how to start, change colours and weave in ends.  Once you have mastered this humble square the possibilities are endless.

We are running two 90-minute workshops at £12.50 each, with limited places on each session.

Everyone receives a goodie bag containing all you need for the workshop plus some extra surprises.

 Willow Weaving with Chaz Friend

Willow Weave 2Just outside the Congregational Church, you'll find a marquee tent and Chaz from Wayside Willow. He seeks to bring the ancient craft of Willow weaving to Twenty First Century learners, engaging them with historical skills and techniques, while cultivating  creative thinking and problem solving.

Chaz says: "l believe we are all created to be creative - its a core part of our humanity. Some people never find that place inside them. I know from experience that willow can help free that creative spark  in people who think of themselves as non-artistic."

Today, Chaz will be guiding you to make a garden obelisk. Make your own unique willow garden ornament to suit the plants that you are growing in your garden.  Make your own choice as to height, diameter and weaving style. Suitable for beginners.

More details from Chaz's website here

There are two 90 minute sessions at 1:30PM and 3:00PM (3:00 PM session now sold out) Tickets cost £15.

Refreshments available in the Congregational Church,  throughout the afternoon.
